An Afternoon with the Valley
The concert, entitled “An Afternoon with the Valley” features eleven music professors and instructors from Lebanon Valley College… one of Pennsylvania’s finest and most versatile music faculties. Consistently named to US News & World Report's "America’s Best Colleges", LVC has been at the forefront of music education since 1879! Single tickets will be sold at the door for $25.00 Adult and $5.00 Students.Since its very beginnings, LVC has had an extraordinary music program that is recognized as a special strength of the institution. Generations of students have benefited from the music curriculum at Lebanon Valley College and the names of LVC graduates dot the musical landscape with successful careers in education, music recording technology, and performance. One of the current students, LVC sophomore, Guillermo Munoz Kuster, a classical guitarist from Chile will present pre-concert music. Marie Cadieux - A 1999 graduate of Ohio State University with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree, Marie served for many years as Principal Cellist for the Illinois Symphony and Illinois Chamber Orchestra, as well as festival orchestras including those at Aspen, the Blossom Music Festival, and Great Music West, traveling Broadway shows, and dance companies such as the Mark Morris Dance Company. She has also performed extensively with the Kirkland Piano Trio, and is presently performing with the Satori Chamber Ensemble.Hannes Dietrich – Hannes graduated from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 1996. He teaches violin, viola, string methods, principles of conducting, and advanced instrumental conducting, as well as directing the LVC Orchestra and coaching chamber ensembles. He is responsible for the LVC Honors Strings program, an annual event that attracts the area’s best high school string players. In addition to teaching duties, Hannes is active as a recitalist, performing throughout the US and Europe.James Erdman – Jim served as principal trombonist and soloist for twenty years with the United States Marine Band, retiring in 1976. As lead trombonist for “The President’s Own” chamber orchestra and big band, he performed regularly at the White House with invited artists including The Carpenters, Carol Lawrence, Robert Goulet, Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra, Nelson Riddle, members of the Metropolitan Opera and numerous others. In 1985, the International Trombone Association recognized his “contribution to virtuoso solo trombone playing.” He has been teaching low brass at LVC since 1983.
Ai-Lin Hsieh - Cellist Ai-Lin Hsieh received a Doctoral of Musical Arts degree from University of Maryland in 2005. She was a contracted cellist in the Maryland Symphony Orchestra and was a cello instructor in D.C. Youth Orchestra program and the Montgomery College, Maryland. Ms. Hsieh’s mentors include such prominent performers and pedagogues as Steven Doane, Evelyn Elsing, Kenneth Slowik, Peter Wiley, and David Soyer.Rebecca Lister - Rebecca is currently director of vocal studies, teaching applied voice, vocal literature, pedagogy, and diction. She earned a Doctor of Music degree from FSU in 1997. Rebecca has appeared several times as a guest artist on various music series, including the St. Paul Early Music Series, a 12-voice choral ensemble that performs in and around St. Paul and neighboring Minneapolis. Lister has also performed with EX MACHINA, a baroque opera company formerly based in the Twin Cities. She frequently gives master classes.Jim Miller - Bassist Jim Miller is one the founding members of the popular jazz quartet Third Stream. Jim has toured the United States with various bands and has performed with Jimmy Heath, Art Taylor, Herb Ellis, Barry Harris, Buddy DeFranco and many other top artists. He was voted “Bassist of the Year” for three consecutive years by TV Host Magazine. He is currently teaches acoustic and electric bass and directs the small jazz ensemble at LVC.Andrew Roberts – A pianist/composer/arranger, Andy is a graduate of the Berklee School of Music in Boston and teaches jazz studies at LVC. He has been music director for the Timbers Dinner Theater in Mount Gretna and has toured Japan several times with soul legends The Three Degrees. He is the leader of The Four Peace Quartet, Meantime, the Two Man Group and the Andy Roberts Group. His original music has been featured on WVIA National Public Radio and RUV Icelandic Radio.Shelly Moorman-Stahlman – A 1990 graduate of the University of Iowa with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree, Shelly teaches private organ and piano lessons, organ literature, organ pedagogy, and sacred music courses. She also coordinates class piano instruction and directs the college handbell choir. Active as both an organist and pianist, Shelly has frequently presented recitals, workshops and master classes for conventions, colleges and churches. She also has garnered an impressive array of competition credits. In the spring of 2007, she was featured as one of four international organ recitalists at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia.
Dennis Sweigart - A 1963 graduate of Lebanon Valley College, Dennis joined the LVC music faculty in 1972 and now heads the keyboard area, teaching private lessons, form & analysis, keyboard harmony, piano pedagogy and piano literature. He holds a master's degree in piano from the University of Michigan and a doctorate from the University of Iowa. Dennis has performed in numerous recitals throughout the Midwest and has made television appearances. In addition to recital appearances on the east coast, Sweigart has presented workshops on various music-related topics. He is frequently invited to adjudicate piano competitions.Composer – LVC Professor Scott Eggert – A 1982 graduate of the University of Kansas with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree, Scott teaches music theory, composition, counterpoint, and orchestration. He is active as a composer and has premiered major works on and off campus, including compositions for orchestra, violin, violin/cello duo, organ, clarinet, trombone, voice, piano, and alto saxophone. Duo Terlano will play one of his compositions entitled “Dance Card”.Pre-Concert Music – LVC Student
